Maria Catherine Trabert 1 was born before 1780 in Langenbieber, Germany. She married Johannes Caspar Noll.

Joseph Michel 1, 2, 3 was born 4 on 4 Nov 1802 in Bavaria, Hesse-Cassel, Germany. He died 5 on 7 Jan 1881 in Stock Twp., Noble Co., OH. He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. He married 6 Catharina Schrimph on 13 Aug 1837 in St. James Catholic Church, Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia.

Ms. Snider's records indicate some conflict on the subject's first name. He is alternately referred to as "Joseph" or "John George."

History of Noble County 1887 page 453
"Joseph Michel came to this township (Stock) from Wheeling in 1842. He first bought 40 acres, but afterward added to it 105 acres. He died in 1881 at the age of 79. His children were: John, Catharine (Heil), Elizabeth (Miller), Mary (Hill), Barbara (deceased), and Joseph (deceased)."

At the time of the 1850 census, 47 year old farmer Joseph Michel lived in Stock Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Catherine (39) and children John (12), Catherine (9), Elizabeth (6), Mary (5), and Barbary (2). The children are all listed as having been born in Virginia. The two oldest children attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Phillip Snider and Issac Bates.

In 1860, 58 year old Hessian-born farmer Joseph Michael lived in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 50 year old wife Catherine and their children: John (22), Catherine (19), Elizabeth (17), Mary (14), and Joseph (9). All the children except John attended school.

Cause of death is obscured by a scratch in the microfilm on the Noble County death records.

Catharina Schrimph 1, 2 was born 3 on 1 Sep 1810 in Hesse-Kassel, Germany. She died 4 on 2 Jan 1881 in Stock Twp., Noble Co., OH. The cause of death was inflamation of bowels. She was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. She married 5 Joseph Michel on 13 Aug 1837 in St. James Catholic Church, Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia.

Census records give place of birth as Hesse, but her death record states that she was born in "Bavaria, Austria."

Catherine and Joseph Michel's obituaries appeared in the Caldwell Citizens' Press on 13 Jan 1881:
On the second day of the new year, died one of the most exemplary members
of the Catholic population of this neighborhood, Mrs. Joseph Michael, Sr. Forty-
five years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Michael left Germany and came to this county.
Settling first at Wheeling, where they labored a few years,. Having saved a few
dollars, they came to this place [Fulda] and found it a wild place indeed, no road, no
house, no cultivated land. They set to work, being young and strong they soon
changed the appearance of things. By industry, sobriety, and economy they not only
secured the necessaries of life but accumulated property until they became among the
wealthiest citizens of Noble County.
Recently the husband, Joseph Michel, was prostrated with an incurable disease
and his wife nursed him with surpassing care and tenderness; (their children are all
married and removed) until her strength gave way on the last day of the year. She
suffered terribly until death relieved her. She was buried on the 4th according to the
rites of the Church to which she belonged. The entire congregation assembled at the
funeral services. The husband survived her but a few days. He died on the 7th and
was buried on Sunday morning.

They had the following children:

  M i John Michel
  F ii Catharina Michel
  F iii Elizabeth Michel
  F iv Mary Anna Michel
F v Anna Barbara Michel 1, 2 was born in Sep 1848 in near Fulda, Noble Co., OH. She was christened in St. Mary, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. She died before 1860 in Ohio.

Twelve year old Anna Barbara Michel is not listed with her family in the 1860 census. It is presumed that she died before this time.
  M vi Joseph Michel

Henry Joseph Miller 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 was born on 14 Feb 1818 in Hesse Cassel, Germany. He died on 30 Mar 1905 in Noble Co., OH. He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. He married 6 Mary A. Bickett Yeagle in 1860.

Other marriages:
Staubbach, Marian Margaret

Joseph and Margaret were in (West) Virginia from about 1840 to 1842.

In 1850, 31 year old German-born farmer Joseph Miller lived in Enoch Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his 35 year old wife Mary and six children: Henry (9), Adam (7), John (6), Elizabeth (3), Eve (2), and Leonard (4 months). Only the oldest child attended school. The family was enumerated next to John Gerst's household in the census.

In 1870, Joseph Miller (50) lived in Enoch Twp. Noble Co., Ohio with his wife second wife Mary A. (45) and children Lenonard (20), Andrew (14), John (8), George (6), and Joseph (4). The children were all born in Ohio; Joseph and Mary were born in Hesse Cassel. Only John attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John Gerst and J. Henry Hupp.

At the time of the 1880 census, Joseph Miller (62) still lived in Enoch Twp.with his second wife Mary (55) and sons John (18), George (16) and Joseph (14). Neighboring households in the census were those of Joseph Blake and Francis John Zwick.

From The Caldwell Citizens' Press, 8 Dec 1881:
           H. J. Muller has gone on a visit to Wheeling.

In 1900, 82 year old Henry J. Miller lived in a house that he owned in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 75 year old second wife Mary. Henry and Mary had been married for 40 years. Accordding to the census, Henry was born in Germany and came to America in 1834, when he was 17 years old. He was a naturalized American citizen. Henry J. Miller could not read, write, or speak English.

Mary A. Bickett Yeagle 1, 2, 3 was born in Mar 1825 in Hesse Cassel, Germany. She died in 1903 in Noble Co., OH. She was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. She married 4 Henry Joseph Miller in 1860.

Delores Snider's book "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda, OH" gives the name Mary A. Bickett Yeagle for Henry J. Miller's second wife. It is not known which of the two last names -- Bickett or Yeagle -- is Mary's maiden name, and which is the surname of her (surmised) first husband. Mary was 35 years old when she married Henry Miller. The census indicates that three of her five children were still living in 1900. Since she had five children with Henry Miller, the census data suggest that either: 1) there was no previous marriage, or 2 ) she had no children from a previous marriage, or 3) any children from an earlier marriage were not counted.

Mary was born in Germany and came to America in 1856, when she was 31 years old. Mary, like her husband, could not read or write English. Unlike him, however, she was able to speak English.
