ZANESVILLE -Raymond W. Norris, 90, of Zanesville, formerly of McConnelsville, went home to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House.
Raymond was born on Feb. 17, 1916, in Nellie, to the late Calvin and Ethel Gamertsfelder. He was a retired freight agent for Norfolk & Western Railways. He is a member of Grace United Methodist Church in McConnelsville.Raymond served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy J. Almendinger Norris, of the home; three sons, Timothy (Helen) Norris of Columbus, Walter "Butch" (Ann) Norris of Zanesville, Michael G. "Mick" (Sara) Norris of Zanesville; a daughter, Raye Ellen (Dan) Nixon of Mt. Vernon; two stepsons, Roger (Sandy) Best of Ripley, W.Va., Danny (Shirley) Best of Malta; two stepdaughters, Sally (Randy) Thompkins of Zanesville and Pamela (Roger) Rainer of Caldwell; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Mary Ellen Norris; a stepmother, Leola Norris;a brother Calvin Norris Jr.; and a sister, Mollie Jones.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at The Snouffer Funeral Home 1150 W. Military Road, Zanesville. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in the Snouffer Chapel with the Rev. Tim Patton officiating.Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full military honors provided by George Selsam VFW Post 1058.
Mary Ellen Whikehart 1, 2, 3 was born about 1916. She died 4 on 29 Jul 1975 in Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH. She married Raymond W. Norris in 1937 in Newark, Licking Co., OH.

Although Robert used the surname Whitehurst, he was not the son of Ransford Leslie Whitehurst. Robert's biological father's name is not known. Ransford Leslie Whitehurst had a legitiimate son, born in Illinois. Both boys were born in 1926, and both were named Robert Whitehurst, although they are not related to each other.
