Mrs. Clara Sorge (sic), 76, of Summerfield Route 1, died yesterday [22 Dec 1972]
at 12:05 a.m. in Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Nov.
25 1896 in Noble County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ritterbeck. Mrs. Sorge
was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic church in Carlisle and was a member of the
church’s Catholic Women’s Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Sorge, one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Biedenbach
of Sarahsville; two sons, Earl and Virgil; one brother, Ernest Ritterbeck of Cuyahoga Falls;
24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday in St. Michael’s Catholic church and the
funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Re. Walter Hinze will officiate. Friends
may call at the Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield from 7 to 9 on Sunday and from 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 Monday.

Roman S. Crum, 61, of 423½ North Seventh street was dead on arrival at Bethesda
Hospital at 11:45 a.m. Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack while walking
on North Seventh street near the Expressway exit.
He was born in Noble County Oct. 10, 1903, a son of Leo and Elizabeth Yeagle
Crum and was a member of the Bethel Church of God. He worked as a painter.
Surviving are his widow, Margaret, four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Archer of Summer-
field Route 2, Mrs. Mary Rose Saling, Mrs. Marjorie Saling, and Mrs. Louella
Mazenko, all of South Olive; four step-daughters, Mrs. Wanda Devaul of Falls
Church, W. Va., Mrs. Benjamin Massaro of Wooster, Mrs. Don Armstrong of
Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Donald Little of 841 Leonard avenue; two step-sons,
Gail Ice of Cincinnati and Grant Ice of Cutler; a sister, Mrs. Clara Saling of Lowell
and several grandchildren.
The body was taken to DeLong and Baker Funeral Home where friends may call
after 7 p.m. today.

Services for Roman S. Crum, 61, of 423½ North Seventh street [Zanesville]
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in DeLong and Baker Funeral Home with Rev.
L. J. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Crum died

NOBLE COUNTY WOMAN DIES; HIT BY AUTO
CALDWELL - Mrs. Edna M. Crum, 62, of Caldwell
Route 4 was fatally injured at 6 a.m. Tuesday [22 Mar 1966]
when she was struck by an automobile a mile north of Cald-
well on U.S. 21, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.
Mrs. Crum sustained multiple fractures of her right
leg and head injuries. She was dead on arrival at a Caldwell
physician’s office where she was taken in a McVay ambulance.
Officers said Mrs. Crum walked from the west to the east side
of the highway into the path of the northbound car operated by
Mrs. Vada Z. Waybright, 36, of Marietta. Mrs. Crum was en
route to work at Loos Produce Company in Cambridge when
she was struck. She was hit as she crossed the road to get into
an automobile.
Mrs. Crum was born May 12, 1903, in Noble County,
a daughter of Peter and Rose Sorg.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Margery Saling, Mrs.
Mary Rose Saling, and Mrs. Louella Macenko, all of near Cald-
well, and Mrs. Lucille Archer of Summerfield Route 2; two sisters,
Mrs. Anna Crum of Caldwell Route 1, and Mrs. Ida Archer of Sum-
merfield Route 1; two brothers, Harry Sorg of near Summerfield;
and Ott Sorg of Caldwell; 17 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Clara
Schott, preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home in Summer-
field 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Rosary will be recited at 7:30
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Requiem Mass will be
sung at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in
Caldwell.

and a lifelong resident of Noble county, died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Alex Crock of near Carlisle, Friday, shortly before
noon, following a six-weeks illness of a heart ailment. He was twice married, first to Mary Ann Miller and following her
death to Mary Block, also deceased. Surviving are five daughters and five sons; Mrs. Ben Gerdes of
Coldwater; Mrs. Crock; Mrs. William Crum of Canton; Mrs. Eugene
Lieser, Cleveland; Mrs. Rose Moran, Maywood, Ill., Isadore, of
Louisville, O.,; Edward, Martin and Urban, all of Cleveland and
Wilbur of near Caldwell; three brothers, John of Fulda and M. F.
and Caster (sic: Casper) of Caldwell. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Michael's
church at Carlisle, with Rev. Father J. J. Donaldson officiating.
Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in charge of the Brubach
funeral home.

Jacob Schott's funeral notice was published in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on August 26, 1942 SCHOTT FUNERAL Funeral services for Jacob Schott, 87, of the Berne community,
were held Monday at the St. Michael church at Berne, with Rev.
Father J.J. Donaldson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are five sons, Isadore, of Lewisville, O.; Edward, Martin
and Urban, of Cleveland, and William of near Caldwell; five daughters,
Mrs. Ben Gerdes, of Coldwater; Mrs. William Crum, of Canton; Mrs.

Obituary:
Shock following an operations for cancer last Monday causes the death of Mrs.
Mary Ann Schott, aged 51, a resident of Carlisle, Noble county, at the Good Samaritan
hospital at 5:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon. The body was removed to the Mader
undertaking rooms and prepared for burial and will be shipped to Summerfield over the
O. R. & W. road at 7:50 o’clock Friday morning. The funeral will be conducted Sunday
morning at the Catholic church in Carlisle.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Schott is survived by 10 children: Edward J., Isadore W.,
Martin C., Urban B., Wilbert W., Mrs. Emily Gerdes, Mrs. Elizabeth Crock, Mrs.
Katherine Burkhardt, Mrs. Emma Leiser and Miss Rosa Schott. Many of her children
were present when death ensued.

According to the 1930 census, Mary and her mother were born in Ohio. Her father was a native of Germany.

The following appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on May 23, 1932 Mr. and Mrs. John Shehl spent Tuesday evening at
the home of Jake Schott of Summerfield, route 2. Mrs.
Schott is very critically ill at this writing.

A shorter death notice appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on June 9, 1932 BERNE, O., June 8 -- Mrs. Mry Schott of route 1 passed
away at her family home near here Saturday morning,
following a lingering illness of complications. Funeral
services were held Monday in the St. Michael's church
here with Brubach and Dearth in charge.


Valentine Estep 1, 2, 3, 4 was born in Jan 1845 in Ohio. He died 5 on 26 Dec 1923. He married Theresa Brinkmeier about 1870.

The Estep family was enumerated at the bottom of the page in 1900; the microfilm image of the last two lines is very dark and difficult to read. The family still owned a farm in Proctor. Family members were Valentine (55 - Jan 1845), wife Tressa (53 - Jan 1847), and children John C. (18 - Aug 1881), Mary C. (16 - May 1884), Frederick L. (13 - Mar 1887), Frank L. (10 - Jul 1889) and Rosa (7 - Aug 1892). The three youngest children attended school.

At the time of the 1910 census, Valentine Estep (66) and his wife Triece (63) owned a farm in Proctor. Living with them were their children Fred (23), Frank (19) and Rosa (16). None of the children attended school. Triece came to America in 1869, according to the census. The couple had been married for 39 years. The only other Estep on the same page of the census were widow Magdelena (55),

In 1920, farmer Valentine Estep (76), wifeTeresa (72) and children Frederick (32) and Rosa (25) lived in Proctor. Valentine was a native of Ohio; his parents were Hessian. Teresa was Prussian, as were her parents. Both children were born in West Virginia. Other Esteps living nearby were Joseph, Frank, and Clement and their families.

Theresa Brinkmeier 1, 2, 3, 4 was born in Jan 1847 in Prussia. She died 5 on 7 Dec 1925. She married Valentine Estep about 1870.

According to the 1910 census, eight of Theresa's ten children were still living.

Louis J. Ritterbeck [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 was born 8 on 12 Mar 1864 in near Fulda, Noble Co., OH. He was christened in St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Fulda, Noble Co., OH. He died on 7 Jan 1938 in Noble Co., OH. He was buried in St. Michael Cemetery, Carlisle, Noble Co., OH. He married 9 Mary Ann Yeagle on 11 Apr 1893 in St. Mary Immaculate Conception, Fulda OH.

Records conflict on place of birth. Church records of St. Mary, Fulda, Noble County, OH (cited by Delores Snider) indicate that Louis Ritterbeck was baptized there. In the 1900 census, Louis Ritterbeck states that he was born in Pennsylvania. (Fulda is about 90 miles from the Pennsylvania border.)

In 1900, 36 year old farmer Louis Ritterbeck lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 27 year old wife Mary and their three children: Albert (6), Clara (4), and Ernest (1). Mary and Louis could both read and write. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Cain Sorg and Allen Barnes.

In 1930, Lewis (68) and Mary (58) Ritterbeck owned a farm in Stock Twp. where they lived with their unmarried son, William (29). Unlike most of their neighbors, the Ritterbecks owned a radio set.

Living near Summerfield, Ohio in 1933, according to the obituary of his sister-in-law, Margaret Yeagle Schott.

Ritterbeck on 11 Apr 1893 in St. Mary Immaculate Conception, Fulda OH.

According to the 1900 census, all three of the children that Mary Yeagle Ritterbeck had given birth to were still living.

accompanied by Wayne McAuley and Mrs. Oscar Brubach, who visited the latter's
sister, Mrs. James Donovan.

(Rachel Yeagle Michel and Mary Ann Yeagle Ritterbeck were sisters.)

In 1930, 26 year old farmer Roman Crim (Crum) lived with his wife Edna (26) in a home they owned (value $500) in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were their children Marjorie (4) and Mary R. (11 mos.). Based on census data, they had been married for about 5 years. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Roman's and Edna's parents. The family did not own a radio set.

Roman S. Crum, 61, of 423½ North Seventh street was dead on arrival at Bethesda
Hospital at 11:45 a.m. Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack while walking
on North Seventh street near the Expressway exit.
He was born in Noble County Oct. 10, 1903, a son of Leo and Elizabeth Yeagle
Crum and was a member of the Bethel Church of God. He worked as a painter.
Surviving are his widow, Margaret, four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Archer of Summer-
field Route 2, Mrs. Mary Rose Saling, Mrs. Marjorie Saling, and Mrs. Louella
Mazenko, all of South Olive; four step-daughters, Mrs. Wanda Devaul of Falls
Church, W. Va., Mrs. Benjamin Massaro of Wooster, Mrs. Don Armstrong of
Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Donald Little of 841 Leonard avenue; two step-sons,
Gail Ice of Cincinnati and Grant Ice of Cutler; a sister, Mrs. Clara Saling of Lowell
and several grandchildren.
The body was taken to DeLong and Baker Funeral Home where friends may call
after 7 p.m. today.

In 1920, Ignatz Yeagle (30) owned a farm in Stock Township, Noble County, Ohio. He lived there with his wife Stella (25), daughters Edity (7) Lucy (4) and Margery (2), and Sylvester (86) and Teresa (61) Yeagle. Sylvester and Teresa are incorrectly listed as grandparents. The Yeagle's neighbors were William Crum and John Clark.

At the time of the 1930 census, I. H. (40) and Estella B. (35) Yeagle still owned a farm in Stock Twp. where they lived with their daughters Edith M. (17), Lucy T. (15), Marjorie M. (13) and Regina R. (4 yrs 5 mos). Lucy and marjorie attended school. The Yeagles were one of only two families on that page of the census who owned a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to J. A. Clark and Clem Warner.

Living near Berne (Carlisle), Ohio in 1933, according to the obituary of his sister, Margaret Yeagle Schott.

Ignatz' three oldest daughters married men who were first cousins: Francis Block, Alonzo Freese, and Neil Weisend were all the grandsons of John Nauer... their mothers were sisters.

Estella Yeagle, 97, of North Braddock, Pa., died Thursday, December 26, 1991. She was
born June 30, 1894 in Noble County, a daughter of the late Adam and Margaret Sorg. She
was married to Ignatius Yeagle, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Yeagle is survived by three daughters, Lucy Freese of Akron, Margery Weisend
of Woodsfield, and Regina Schockling of North Braddock, Pa.; one brother, Rupert Sorg, route
1, Sarahsville, 16 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Edith Block; two
brothers, John and Andrew Sorg, and one grandson, Donald Weisent.
Friends were received at the Elkin Mortuary, North Braddock, Pa., on Friday. A Mass
of Christian Burial was held at the Good Shepherd Church of Braddock, Pa., and at St.
Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church of Fulda on Monday, December 30 at 11:30 a.m.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.

died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday [7 Dec 1977] at her home following an apparent heart
attack. A member of the Summerfield Church of Christ, she also belonged to the East
Union Homemakers Club and the Carlisle Grange.
Born Dec 14, 1908 in Noble County, Mrs. Sorg was a daughter of the late James Robert
and Alwilda Rossiter Davison. She and her husband lived on a farm at Summerfield Route
1 until 1964 when they moved to East Union.
Surviving are her husband Rupert T.; three daughters, Mrs. George (Betty) Warner
of Summerfield Route 1, Mrs. Ronald (Irene) Bates of Summerfield, and Mrs. Roscoe
(Louella) Tilton of Caldwell; three sons, Vernon of Sarahsville Route 1, Rupert T. Jr. of
Marysville, and Darrel of Caldwell; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Hazel) Thomas of Florida,
and Mrs. William (Geneva) Clarke of Caldwell; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Brubach Funeral Home at Summer-
field. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Summerfield
