LOWER SALEM - Hilda Louella Tornes, 94, of Lower Salem, formerly of Mariettaand Churchtown, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 10, 2002) at Marietta MemorialHospital. She was born June 22, 1908, in Churchtown to Joseph and Rose Meiser Thieman.She had lived in the Marietta and Washington County areas all her life. Shewas a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club.She was also a member of the Marietta Senior Citizens. She enjoyedcrocheting and quilting.
She is survived by four daughters, Eloise Muhlbach of Coshocton, Mary Zwickand her husband, Charles, of Harriettsville, Arlene Archer and her husband,Dave, of Lowell, and Rita Tassa and her husband, Bernie, of Alexandria, Va.;four sons, Earl Tornes and his wife, Justine, of Waterford, Charles Tornesand his wife, Karen, of Marietta, the Rev. Dale Tornes of Caldwell and JohnTornes and his wife, Kathy, of Hilliard; 27 grandchildren; 50great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.On Oct. 16, 1929, she married Alfred Joseph Tornes. He died on March 11,1977. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Thieman; onesister, Helen Long; and one son-in-law, Robert Muhlbach.Funeral liturgy with Mass is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's CatholicChurch with the Rev. R. Daniel Conlon, bishop of the Diocese ofSteubenville, presiding. The Rev. Dale Tornes will be the celebrant.Monsignor Edward Kakascik, the Rev. Paul Hrezo and all other priests presentwill concelebrate.Burial will follow in New St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8p.m. today and all day Friday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & PeoplesFuneral Home. The family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Fridayat the funeral home.
