MISSING IN ACTION
Butler, John, of Barnesville, formerly of Woodsfield,
Route 3,received a telegram from The War Department
Tuesday, January
30th, that his son, Pvt. Raphael C. Butler, was missing in
action inBelgium.
Private Butler was inducted int The Army, April 3,
1942, and has spentthe past eight months overseas.
He has two brothers serving overseas: Pfc. Paul
Butler, somewhere inFrance, and Cpl. Francis Butler,
in The Dutch East Indies.

KILLED IN BELGIUM
A Memorial Service was observed in St. John's
Catholic Church atMiltonsburg, by the pastor, Rev. G.F.
Drescher, Tuesday morning, March 13th, for Pfc.
Raphael Butler, who was killed in action in Belgium on
January 16th.
Pfc. Butler was born December 19, 1908, in Monroe
County, near Miltonsburg, where he spent his entire life
before entering the service.
He was the son of John Butler and the late Minnie
Butler. He leaves to mourn his sad departure, his father,
John Butler, of Barnesville; three brothers, Clem Butler, of
Jerusalem, Route 2; Cpl. Francis Butler,somewhere in The
Dutch East Indies, and Pfc. Paul Butler, somewhere in
France; three nephews and two nieces. His mother preceded
him in death in1935; also two sisters, Ethel, who died in
1916; and Mrs. Victor Carpenter, who died in 1937, and one
brother, Ronald who died in 1941.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of
Miltonsburg. Inductedinto The Army, April 2, 1942, he
received his basic training at CampChaffee, Arkansas, with
aditional training at Camp Cooke, California. Later being sent
overseas, he first was sent to England and later to France. He
was serving with Company C, 69th Tank Battalion. He was a
highly respected citizen and was loved by all who knew him.
On foreign land he nobly fell
Doing a task he had begun;
A hero brave, his life he gave
That Victory might be won.

Ronald Joseph Butler, 20, of near Miltsonsburg, died
in Ohio Valley General Hospital at Wheeling, Saturday night
at 10:30 o'clock after being a patent there for a month.
He was born near Miltonsburg on December 23, 1926,
the son of John and Minnie Reischman He is survived by his
father, John Butler, of the home, and four brothers, Raphel,
Francis and Paul all of Woodsfield, Route.
The remains were brought to the Campbell Funeral Home
in Barnesville,where they remained until Tuesday morning.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Church Miltonsburg
Tuesday,morning when a Requiem High Mass was solemnized
at 10 o'clock Rev.George- Drescher officiating. Burial was made
in the church cemetery.

Researcher Jim Reischman gives Ernest Reischman's wife's name as Lula. According to the 1930 census, Ernest was married to a woman named Pauline. It is not known if these are two separate women, or if Lula was Pauline's nickname.

In 1870, newlyweds Mathias (24) and Barbary (20) Rashman lived on a farm worth $900 in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Their personal possessions were valued at $200. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Frederick Burkhart and Anne Emmet.

In 1880, 33 year old Modice (Mathiace?) Rashman lived on a farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Barbara (30) and their children Theodore (9), Jacob T. (5), and Louella (3). Theodore attended school for 6 months the previous year. Modice as well as his parents was born in Bavaria; Barbara and the children where born in Ohio; Barbara's parents were born in Prussia.

At the time of the 1900 census, 55 year old (Aug 1844) farmer Mathias Reischman lived with his wife Barbara (50 - Mar 1850) on a rented farm in Kirkwood Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Albert (25 - Mar 1875), Louisa (21 - Mar 1889(1879?) ), Harmon (18 - Apr 1882), Leo (15 - Apr 1885), Tillie (12 - Feb 1888), and Ottir (10 - May 1890). According to the census, they had been married for 30 years. Leo attended school for 4 months the previous year and Tillie and Otto attended for 7 months. Mathias and his parents were born in Germany; Barbara and the children were born in Ohio; Barbara's parents were born in Germany.

In 1910, Mathias Rauchmann (63) lived with his wife Barbara (60) on a farm they owned on Barnesville and Hendrysville Pike in Kirkwood Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. Their sons Leo (24) and Otto (19) lived with them. According to the census, Mathias and Barbara had been married for 39 years. Leo worked as a farm laborer on his father's farm and Otto worked as a grammar school teacher. Listed on the same census sheet as Mathias is his son Albert J. Reischman and his family.

Mathias Reischman, an esteemed and prosperous farmer,
of this region, died at a Wheeling Hospital, Saturday, March 13,
from kidney trouble, following an operation which was performed
last week. He had been in poor health for a long time and
entered the hospital with the hope that his life might be pro-
longed by the operation.
The decedent was born near Miltonsburg, in 1846, and
lived in that neighborhood, the greater part of his life. During
his early manhood, he was married to Miss Barbara Burkhart,
the good wife who survives him.
Mr. Reishman was a man of sterling worth, strict integrity,
unblemished character and industrious and ambitious.
He aimed to make life worth living and his death is a loss
to the community in which he lived and to all with whom he
associated.
Beside his wife, he is survived by the following children:
Albert, Leo, and Otto Reischman of this neighborhood; Her-
man Reischman, Mrs. Edward Gouder, and Mrs. Norbert
Maurer, of Canton, Ohio.
The body was brought here for burial, and funeral services
were held Tuesday morning at the Church of Assumption,
conducted by Rev. William Robin. Burial in the Catholic
Cemetery.
